Considering the behaviour hasn't been corrected, I don't think it's that out of date. You don't stop smacking a puppy with a rolled up newspaper whenever he pisses on the floor just because he doesn't get it the first time. You keep on rubbing his nose in it until he stops pissing on the floor.
